Masha Amplituda
The latest work by the dancer and choreographer Liisa Pentti, is humorous and melancholy piece about a man and a
woman, the reflections and shadows they seek in each others. Memory, reflection
and language are the key themes.
Remembrance as the prerequisite of exixtence.
Masha Amplituda is inspired by the last letter of a Russian poet Osip Mandelstam to his wife from the
prison camp in Siberia 1938.The body serves as the conveyor of thought and
emotion.Pentti often accompanies movement by dialogue and moving images. In
Masha Amplituda,the video plays an important role.

Masha Amplituda is a co-production of Liisa Pentti+ Co, Kiasma Theatre and Goethe-Institut, Helsinki
Liisa Penttiа is a dancer-choreographer living and working
in Helsinki, Finland. She graduated 1986 from Opleiding Moderne Dans in Amsterdam(SNDO)
and has since that made her own work which has been presented in Finland and
Scandinavia, Baltic countries, Holland, France,Germany, Hungary and Russia. Altogether
she has made over twentyfive piecesа
including group and solowork, and choreographies for theatreplays.

She has been establishing Zodiak-center of new dance since 1987 together
with her three colleagues andа is
currently part of the artistic board. She is also one of the founders of the
biannual Sidestep-festival .
In 2000 she has founded her own group Liisa Pentti + Co.The artisticа
aim of the company is to find ways to create work that emphasizes
connection between bodys kinesthetic knowledge and feeling. Liisa Pentti is
looking for movement that is unique and meaningfull in the context of each
choreography. Besides the physical expression she is using means of theatrical,
visual and vocal expression in her work.а
From the beginning 2003 she has been awarded 3-years grant from the Arts
Council of Finland. Her latest works are Men
of Honour,2002, piece for seven dancers and a duet Masha Amplituda 2004.
Martin Nachbar is a
dancer/choreographer working in Berlin. From 1992 to 1996, he studied at the
School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam, and, in 1998, at P.A.R.T.S. in
Brussels. 1995 he received a scholarship of the Nuffic-foundation to study and
work in New York City.а He has worked
with Hans v.d. Broeck of Les Ballets C. de la B., Gent, Vera Mantero andа Thomas Plischke,among others. His recents
works are reconstruction Affectos Humanos
by Dore Hoyer., Solo and Ausflug and a duet Ja, ja- der dritte man based on the working methods
and life of Ernst Jandl.
